AMMUNITION FOR CHANGE
JEWELRY MADE FROM REMNANTS OF FORMER WAR CONFLICTS IN LAOS AND ETHIOPIA
In Ethiopia, farmlands are strewn with bullet casings left from the Eritrian-Ethiopian war. Farmers gather these small pieces of metal to be melted down and fashioned into delicate beads. Women escaping modern day slavery use these beads to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry and use their resourcefulness to find opportunities to build a better life.
Laos is the most heavily bombed country in history per capita. With millions of unexploded ordnance (UXO) still buried deep in the soil and scattered across the country, Laotian women create jewelry from the combination of bombs, plane parts, and other aluminum scrap metal from the Vietnam War era. Purchases will help support de-mining efforts and artisan rural livelihoods in Laos.
